I’ve just recently joined with two artist friends for a collaborative altered book project–my very first!
I got to know Roisin and Melanie on Twitter, and while I’ve not met either (yet) in person, I have enjoyed for two years or so the creativity they each live and encourage in others.
For about that same length of time, I’ve wanted to try an altered book. I had actually started one once then abandoned it for whatever reason, so was really excited when Roisin first suggested we do this. We’ve each chosen a book and will do our bit then send it along to the others, so that at the end we each have a keepsake created by all three of us.
The photo is a tiny sneak peek at the book I started. It’s an old children’s board book I bought at a library sale. Because the pages were glossy, I sanded and gessoed each page before starting to paint.
After that…well, I’m keeping the rest a secret for now. I don’t want to spoil the surprise for the you-know-who’s as my book prepares for travel.
More later!
Love how the book is turning out. I can’t wait to see it! Also, the blog looks really nice. The grey was a good color choice.
Thanks, Melanie–I can’t wait to see your book, too
Gosh has it been two years since we’ve been tweeting? Well its about time we got on with this project
. I’m so excited to see your work first hand and connect with you and Melaine in this way. Looks like an interesting pattern & colour palette.
LOL–well, I guess it felt like that long in my head, maybe more like a year and a half? My Rememberer is not what it used to be. I’m excited to see yours, too!
